Hong Kong Pools to Cool Down This Summer
Hong Kong can get hot and humid in summertime. Nothing beats taking a refreshing swim in one of Hong Kong’s many public pools to cool off from the intense heat or torrential rainfall; swimming can provide not only fun and exercise benefits but is also great for your health! Here are some great hongkong pools you should visit this summer.
Hong Kong’s public swimming pools have recently reopened, yet nearly half have closed lanes or facilities dedicated to swim instruction due to staff shortages. This has caused much alarm among swimmers and lawmakers have asked the government for more progressive measures to recruit more lifeguards.
Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced on Monday that full reopening of public pools this year is “unlikely”, due to only 40% of seasonal lifeguards reporting for duty, which has been compounded by limited training opportunities and low employment rates, according to their announcement.
Swimming in Hong Kong pools is an enjoyable way to escape the city’s hot, muggy air and can offer a respite from its sizzling temperatures, plus there are poolside snack bars that provide delicious drinks and refreshments – perfect for relaxation with family and friends. However, not all pools offer equal experiences, some being better-suited for adults than others.
No matter if it is lap swimming, splashing through waves or simply enjoying stunning scenery – here are five Hongkong pools we think will help keep the heat at bay this summer.
1. Sai Ying Pun Swimming Pool
This family-friendly aquatic center offers two outdoor leisure pools, a training pool and water playground to provide fun for everyone in the family. Their outdoor pools are even heated during winter!
2. Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Swimming Pool
This public pool, with three pools, a giant water playground, and mushroom-shaped fountains throughout, is an ideal place for families with young children to gather. Four big waterslides as well as an enclosed swimming lagoon make Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Swimming Pool an attractive choice.
3. Kowloon Park Swimming Pool This indoor complex with both training and teaching pools makes for the ideal spot for families or individuals looking for an effective workout, especially since both pools are heated during winter!
4. Tsing Yi Swimming Pool
With three main pools, two leisure pools, and a diving pool – as well as large water slides suitable for teenagers and older children – Tsing Yi Swimming Pool is an ideal spot for both families and individual swimmers.
