Hong Kong Pools – Cool Off in the City’s Spectacular Pools

As Hongkongers prepare for summer’s arrival, many find themselves covered in sweat upon leaving home. That is why many turn to Hong Kong’s amazing pools as a respite; not only can they offer spectacular views of Hong Kong’s skyline while swimming away all of your worries; additionally they’re heated throughout winter so can even visit during this cold spell!

Last year, to meet demand, several new pools were constructed to keep up. Alongside existing pool complexes in Wan Chai and Tin Shui Wai, an additional swimming pool opened this year in Kennedy Town designed by Farrells near Exhibition Centre station of West Island Line (WIL). More pools will likely follow.

At the turn of this millennium, following the dissolution of Urban Council and Regional Councils, all public pool operations were transferred to Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). With an increase of mainland swimmers coming in contact with public pools has come with it an increased risk of contamination with vomit or faeces contamination – leading to record numbers being closed down for disinfection over the last six years.

As reported by LCSD, they are struggling to keep their pools clean due to staff shortages, impacting many school children as swimming classes were cancelled during an ongoing strike by Teachers Union of Hong Kong.

Swimming pools in this city were once an enjoyable spot for both local and foreign residents alike, offering scenic views and superior facilities that enabled people to unwind after work, relax with friends or spend quality family time. Unfortunately, as its population increases rapidly, its pools have become overrun with visitors from mainland cities as well as other Asian locations.

Sai Kung draws nature enthusiasts and water sport enthusiasts looking for an escape from Hong Kong’s skyscraper-covered center. It offers idyllic beaches that stretch along dramatic ridges and headlands for stunning scenery; as well as clear turquoise waters with sandy beaches where visitors can indulge in snorkelling, diving, kayaking, sailing, kayaking or other watersports they might never have considered prior.
